The US dollar rose to its highest level in almost two months as investors celebrated the country’s record-low interest rates.NZ dollar rose 1.8 per cent to 69.15 cents US dollar in early trade.
It was up 0.3 per cent on the week and 2.1 per cent higher than the previous week’s high.
The US dollar is now at a record low.
The NZ dollar rose 0.9 per cent at $US8.85 to its strongest level in two weeks.
The US currency has now gained 3.9 percentage points in the last six weeks, a 12-month high.
This is not a record but it is definitely an improvement from the last time it was this low.
The Australian dollar also climbed to its best level in more than three months.
It fell 1.2 per cent after gaining 1.4 per cent in the week.
The dollar rose 2.6 per cent against the euro at 1.1195 per euro.
